Why the Armor?
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 6:10-20
Ephesians 6:12 - for our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
What Paul is saying here is that we are not to lash out against people. We are not fight against flesh and blood using human weapons. The apostle Paul is talking about powerful beings in the unseen world, specifically spirits and demons. This spiritual warfare is an unseen battle that we as believers have against Satan and his army of demons. This is why Paul makes it clear, we are not in a physical battle, our struggle is not against flesh and blood. But we are in a spiritual struggle against the dark forces of evil in the world and in the heavenly realms.
Our great battle is in our hearts and minds and the enemy of our soul attacks our thoughts by twisting and turning the truth. Satans aim is to make us question the truth of who God is and our relationship with Him. You have to remember, Satan and his forces have already been defeated, he was disarmed at the cross and when Christ rose on the third day, death was defeated and He was alive! There is no longer any reason to fear the enemy in the physical and spiritual realms.
The enemy may harass us to try and separate us from God. And yes, Satan will try to slow down our efforts to do Gods will! As followers of Christ he will attempt to break us down and try to lead us astray from Him who gives us strength. But we know that Satan has no authority over us. What enemy can attack us when we have the full armor of God? We should all be filling our minds and hearts with Gods truth. Stay alert and pray continually for the Father to guard our hearts and minds against any attacks. We need not to fear darkness if we continue to walk in the light!
